About Marta Stapert’s original theory book on Focusing with Children (Focusing met Kinderen)

Listening to children is an important skill for parents, teachers, caregivers, and other professionals who work with children. Focusing adds an extra dimension to this way of listening by paying attention to both the child and yourself.

By listening not only to words, thoughts, and emotions, but also to the bodily experience underlying them, space is created for greater awareness and acknowledgement. This can strengthen the connection with the child and support positive changes in behavior.

The authors show how Focusing can be applied in therapy, at school, and in everyday interactions with children. Practical examples illustrate how connection, compassion, and truly listening can contribute to a strong relationship with the child, while also helping you stay connected to yourself.

This book is available in English, Dutch, German, Italian, Spanish, Romanian, Hungarian, Greek, Korean, and Japanese.

There is also a practical guide, Focusing with Children Practice book by René Veugelers and Harriët Teeuw which provides further explanations, inspiring examples, and numerous practical exercises.
